She’s like the British Santigold. I don’t really love Santigold that much, but I’m a sucker for a black Brit…..DIIIIIIVVVVAAAA!

LOVE RAIN
Love rain down on me,on me,down on me
Met him on a thursday, sunny afternoon Cumulus clouds, 84 degrees
He was brown,deep
Said he wanted to talk about my mission
Listen to my past lives (Word?)
Took me on long walks to places where butterflies rest easy
Talked about Moses and Mumia
Reparations, blue colors, memories of shell topped adidas.
He was fresh,like summer peaches
Sweet on my mind like block parties and penny candy
Us was nice and warm,no jacket,no umbrella, just warm
At night we would watch the stars
And he would pyhsically give me each and every one
I felt like cayenne pepper,red,hot,spicy
I felt Dizzy, Sonya, heaven, and
Miles between my thighs
Better than love,we made delicious
He me had,had me he
He made me tongue tied
I could hear his rhythm in my thoughts
I was his sharp, his horn section
His boom and his bip
And he was my love
Love rain down on me,on me,down on me
The rain was fallin and,and slowly and sweetly and stinging my eyes
And I could not see that he became my voodoo priest
And I was his faithful concubine
Wide open, wide, loose like bowels after collard greens
The mistake was made
Love slipped from my lips.
Dripped down my chin and landed in his lap
And us became new
Now me non-clairvoyant and in love
Made the coochie easy and the obvious invisible
The rain was falling
And I couldn’t see the season changing
And the vibe slipping off it’s axis
Our beautiful melody became wildly staccato
The- rain- was- fall-ing- and- I- could- not- see
That I was to be plowed and sowed and fertilized
And left to drown in his sunny afternoon
Cumulus clouds,84 degrees,melody
Love rain down on me,on me,down on me

This ain’t no movie or a Tyler Perry play

I’m an actual fan of Fantasia. Like, not in a ironic, “she’s a mess” kinda way. In like a, “she’s a diva and i love everything she does” kinda way. She goes so hard when she performs and I love this video because she really goes there and nobody gets it but she doesn’t give a fuck. She does her!!!

It’s so easy to hurt others when you can’t feel pain, ain’t it?

Nina Simone has been calling out to me the last couple of weeks. Ray of sunshine, Becca posted a blog with some amazing videos of Ms. Simone doing things that no one else can do which got Nina on my mind. I’ve been hearing her songs everywhere. And then today, my dear friend Meredith introduced me to a perfect cover of “Rich Girl” by Hall and Oates. Nina breathes new life into that song. She takes a catchy pop song where it is easy to ignore the social message and emphasizes it with her classic rasp and dignity. I love her so much! She’s definitely a diva unlike any other! This version of “Rich Girl” is from a recording of Nina Simone’s performance at Town Hall. The striped down arrangement really lets Nina do her thing!

HOMME +

I was flipping through Arena Homme + at a shoot today and I came across two really amazing stories. The first one had my pants bulging which isn’t too hard to accomplish these days, and the second one is a really beautiful portrait story of Rick Owens. He’s such a cool figure and his clothes are so ahead of their time ALWAYS.
Click here for the full Rick Owens story.
And here is a cool video ShowStudio did to go along with the Rick Owens story.
